Audience Feedback:

Feedback: Improvements:

After finishing our first draft, we played our teaser trailer to multiple different audiences and asked numerous different questions such as what they liked and disliked about our website, trailer and poster in order to be able to improve our piece to the best ability.
One of the improvements was to add more ratings on the website, as well and making them fit the page better. I decided to take on this role, I added another rating and decided to re do the entire theme of them, changing from red to a glitch effect white text, in order to give a range and make it stand out more, rather then just the repetitive use of the glowing red.

I also took on the role of lowering the darkness on our trailer, as people deemed it to be slightly too bright. We agreed with this view and thought it would match our genre better if it was lowered, adding more tension and making the scenes appear creepier.

Firstly I used Google images to find an the same image of five stars as I had used previously .

I then inserted them onto my Photoshop document and resized and positioned them to my desired extent.

After this I added a review using the text tool (I made the reviews shorter so they were easier to read and stood out more)
Afterwards I played around with the levels to remove the yellow colour of the stars and make them match the colour of the text. I chose the 'Preset' of custom, the Channel of 'RGB', the Input level of 0, 1.00 and 255. Finally I put the Output level at 255.

I then added a new layer of a 'grunge' background I found on Google images to add texture to the text.

I then played around with the colour balance to give the background an orangey tone.

Audience Feedback

Audience Feedback:

After handing in our first draft of our teaser trailer, website and poster we received group feedback from 3 other classes. Within the feedback it included things that went well on each piece, and then things that needed improving/tweaking on each piece.

Some of the common things that we were told were effective and good on our teaser trailer were;
  • the good use of mise-en-scene (audiences particularly liked the use of the pig mask)
  • the sound effects and music that we chose to use
  • good use of effective shots for genre
  • the glitch effect
Overall these are trends and common things that audiences found effective from our trailer.
However there is some things that needed tweaking in which our audiences identified for us, these common things that were raised by the audiences were;
  • the titles at the start that were explaining facts about the deep web were shown too quickly and were not able to be read
  • make the lighting in some shots darker to make it effective for genre
The feedback that we received upon the poster was similar for the things that were good/effective and these were;
  • the distortion of the face and it being split in half with a pig mask
  • good colour scheme
  • effective tagline
However there was also common trends in what the audiences thought needed to be tweaked/improved and these were;
  • make typography bigger and change the colour of it
Finally the website feedback we received as a group about common things that were effective are;
  • the laptop gif as the main background
  • typography which glows
  • moving title
Within our poster there was only one piece of major feedback that we received and that was;
  • make the ratings clearer to see and bigger
Below is evidence of the feedback we received:

After we had looked through the feedback in our group we allocated roles to each group member on things to improve.

Below are the things I improved.

Audience Feedback

Feedback from Peers

After a class session of watching and reviewing all the other group's pieces, we received useful feedback on the strengths and weaknesses of our trailer, website and poster. We received the most praise for our typography/animation and soundtrack, as well as the glitching effects we used throughout the trailer. On the website, people liked the neon red theme and the background image used, and on the poster the split image we used was received well.

However, there were a few improvements that needed to be made. In the trailer, some of the sound was slightly off of the titles which caused a slight delay. Another criticism was that some of the longer titles were not on screen long enough to be read. Regarding the website, people said that the video thumbnail needed to be changed as the current one was quite dark and could not be seen well against the background. The critical reviews were also too small to read, and we had forgotten to include working hyperlinks. Finally, the only improvement to be made on the poster was to darken the '15' age rating as it was very bright in comparison to the rest of the poster.

As a group, we delegated these tasks amongst us. I needed to make the titles longer and ensure the sound was playing at the right time. I did this by elongating the sound effects so they fit across the whole title, and by inserting more of the title clips. As I made these on Photoshop to be roughly 5 frames long, I just needed to add more instead of elongating it in any way. I set them for different amounts of time depending on how long the title is, for example 'Turn Back' takes less time to read than the longer titles at the start.

Editing, Film Trailer, Evaluation

Editing - Film Teaser Trailer

Evaluation of Editing:

As a group I feel as though we worked well when it came to editing. Editing was a very important part of our film trailer to ensure that it worked well to fit the genre that we were trying to convey and that this was clear.
The way in which we did this was through:
  • use of sound that was effective and helped convey the genre the whole way through the trailer
  • editing clips for example the glitch that we added into some of the parts of the trailer
  • the use of lighting and ensuring that all props were used and seen
The way we did this as a group I feel was effective especially through the sound tracks that we chose to suit our genre.

Editing, Website, Louise

For our website we ensured that we evenly had separate roles within contributing towards the website. However I think that as a group there is some things that we are aware of that need changing and things that need adding in.

Here is our current website in which we all contributed towards. For example I created the social media links, harriet added in the tag line with the star rating underneath and Xena did the red room title and edited in the photo onto the website.

However I think that there are some things that would make it more effective and with slight changes would make the overall layout better. To improve our website I am going to add in some critical reviews down the side and take that as my responsibility as they are currently missing and try and add those in.

Typography, Practial, Louise

After looking at typography and the common conventions of typography within horror films I used photoshop to make one suitable for our genre and to work with our film poster/website.

As this was before we decided what we were going to have within our final product I just created a typography that was suitable for the genre however it was very basic. Below are the steps that I went through to reach my final product.
