Conventions:
In the teaser trailer for Paranormal Activity 2 there is common representations that conform to the horror genre shown throughout. Firstly at the beginning of the teaser trailer for paranormal activity 2 it is introduced very dramatically which would draw the viewer in because it features loud sounds and a change of lighten quickly and builds suspense.
This is the beginning of the teaser trailer and it is shown really dark with dark lighting and shadows this is conforming to the common representations of a horror film. The way that the door entrance is shown as being really dark is conforming the representations of a horror film because it gives the audience a disconcerting feel as they can't see what is through there and if anything was going to appear. Also this disconcerting feel is emphasised by the fact that the camera angle used here is a canted angle to the side so the room looks sideways. This makes the viewer feel disorientated.
Here is shown a long shot of the room. The room is shown to look relatively normal although it is dark and there are blue lights shown from certain parts of the room which makes it look spooky because all of the other lights are off but the blue tone lights that are used are commonly associated with horror films especially paranormal films. This is shown in more than one part of the trailer it is shown every time when a room of the house is shown.
Here in this part of the trailer a fuzzy screen is shown all of a sudden just when the audience are being shown the room. This creates suspense for the viewer because they don't know what is happening and why the screen is showing that which could make the viewers think something bad is going to occur. This conforms to common conventions because it is creating suspense and uncertainty upon the viewers.
In this part of the teaser trailer there is a woman shown and her figure and shadow is lit up by the blue lights that are surrounding her. The viewer of this trailer is unable to work out what is going on here which is ideal because it will make the viewer want to find out more. The viewer of this teaser trailer can only see a black figure standing there and then the rest of the bedroom. The positioning of the woman that is standing there is unusual and therefore this makes the viewer of the trailer question what is going to happen conforming to the common representations of a horror film creating suspense.Sound within the teaser trailer:
At the beginning of the Paranormal Activity the sound starts of with slight fuzzy sounds made almost as if a camera is cutting out along with faint heartbeat sounds in the background of the beginning of the trailer every now and again. Once the black screen has disappeared once we are shown the fuzzy screen the audience see something come flying towards the camera and at this point there are a lot of loud screams and glass along with other things breaking is also heard. Then when it goes on to show the audience the views of the different rooms in the house there isn't a lot of background noise just slight eery noises made like the sound of wind/ghosts and then the fuzzy noise from something cut out is heard for a second time in the trailer. Once it has moved out of the bedroom view and the screen turns green onto an audience of people screams are then heard. After this there is a view of the room where the baby is in the cot there is also no noise or very faint spooky noises heard at this point but there is no loud sounds at this point previously like before when the view of the bedroom was shown. Then very quietly a faint fuzzy sound is heard as it cuts into the next view of the house which is outside and then there is another cut into the kitchen and the fuzzy sound is heard again. Whilst the audience are viewing the kitchen there is slight sounds of things moving and glass moving. After this it moves back into the room where the baby is in the cot and the suspense builds up by loud beating sounds creating more and more suspense and then along with the dog barking at something he has obviously seen conforms to common representations of a horror film because dogs always bark at things that are unusual. The dog barks twice to create suspense to show something is getting closer and this is also accompanied by the backing sounds of a loud beat getting faster and more tense for the viewer. After this the fuzzy screen then appears with a loud sound that then reveals a figure standing in the doorway. The loud sound that is heard prior to being shown the figure conforms to common representations because it shows that something bad has happened or is about to happen and now there is an unusual figure in the room where there is a baby in a cot. Towards the end when the title is shown the sound that is used here is the sound that was heard at the beginning of the trailer which is the ghostly/wind sound and breathing sounds.
The title is shown is sans serif which although it is supernatural it is shown by using sans serif which takes away the religious meaning which therefore could make it more realistic to the viewers and this can be seen through the title. This effect isn't only shown at the end it is shown throughout where it comes up with titles to create an effect on the audience which could make this more realistic as the viewer is watching the trailer.
