Film Website Deconstruction

Deconstruction of Professional Film Websites

As part of our coursework, we need to create a promotional website for our film concept. In order to find inspiration and ideas for our own website, we have looked at websites for real films and the features they include.

The website for the film 'The Visit' (found here) is very simplistic, including just one image on a black background. However, this is made more interesting by having the fly on the cookies move around to add a more eerie effect. Unlike this one, our website needs to include our trailer and critical reviews, however this website does include those when you click on the links. It uses a very desaturated colour scheme, conventional of horror films, which I think would definitely apply to our own website.

Similarly, the website for 'Dead Awake' (found here) uses a very simple red, white and black colour scheme which is very typical of the horror genre. This website consists of a large title with the trailer underneath, and a reference to the director which will make people more interested in the film. However I feel compared to the last website this one is much less interesting as the previous one had an image with a note which caused the viewer to look at it for longer.

Unlike the first two, 'Under the Skin' is not a horror film but contains dark psychological elements similar to our own trailer, so I have looked at the website (found here) to get ideas that may not be seen in the previous two. I find this website interesting because of the use of movement and colour; the woman's face slowly changes colour and the background can be seen slowly moving. The use of serif and sans serif fonts together also works. Unlike ours will need to be, this website does not fit all on one page however it is made more interesting by having the background image remain the same with the text scrolling over the top. For a film with psychological elements, I think it's an interesting idea to use a close up of a face.
