Focus Group Analysis

Focus group analysis:

As a group we needed to talk to people about the particular genre and we did this through creating a focus group which had 5 members in it and we asked them questions about our genre so we were able to use their responses to identify what we should use within our trailer and what perhaps the audience are unaware of about our genre the deep web.

These are the questions that we asked them:

1. Relevance: have you heard of the dark web? and do you believe that the dark web/cyber crime in general is relevant to modern day society? and why?
2. Are you interested in this topic? why? What are any relevant films you have seen?
3. Have you seen any news articles regarding this topic?  do you feel it should be talked about more?
4. What type of sound do you believe would be relevant?
5. Which is the most interesting area out of these four topics?

For the first question all of the people within our focus group said they have heard of the deep web. One of the respondents said it was relevant to modern day society because terrorists can use technology that has progressed with the dark web which gives them new ways of making an impact on individuals within society everyday lives.  Another respondent raised a point about drug trafficking and how that is relevant in modern day society as there is more accessibility to drugs and there is more young people doing drugs.

In the second question which was if they were interested in this topic and if they had seen any relevant films a respondent said yes she was interested because there isn't a lot of films on it and it isn't publicised too much. Another respondent said because there is no access to the deep web which makes it secretive this makes her find the whole concept more interesting. When asking if they had seen any films related a respondents said she had seen unfriended which is a new film to do with the deep web and another one said she had seen friend request. These films are both based upon social media so are relevant films. Someone within the focus group said that she feels films about the deep web don't have very good representations and she feels they could be presented better and they whole focus group agreed on having a trailer based on socially relevant issues would be more effective.

For the third question which was asking the group if they had seen any articles relating to this topic and if they think it should be talked about more, and a respondent said if she hadn't of heard from a group member about the deep web she wouldn't know about it therefore she thinks it should be talked about more and she feels people should be made more aware. Another group member said because it is so secretive and it isn't talked about enough they cannot enforce laws about it but if they were to make people more aware laws could be enforced.

In the fourth question we talked about the four main areas that we were deciding to do our trailer on and one respondent said that she found red rooms the most interesting. Another respondent said that she felt it would be a good idea to make a trailer about something people don't see very often in the dark web to make them aware and understand.

In our final question we asked what sound or soundtrack they think could be used and most of the people in the group feel that natural noises would be better to add the realism of the film as they feel it creates more of an impact and makes it more believable. However they do think that there should be some sort of soundtrack at some point.
