Making Masks for our Trailer
Following the results of our survey, it seems that the idea of using masks in our trailer is particularly popular. However, as we have no yet decided what kind of masks we want to use or if we want to use them at all, I didn't want to spend a lot of money on something we hadn't agreed on yet. So, I decided to use plain surgical masks as I already had a lot of them at home, and just bought fake blood, as it's likely we'll end up using this at some point.
I started with plain masks, like above. I bought two types of fake blood; a liquid one to create drips with and one in a spray bottle that would create a splattered effect. On top of a plastic bag, I sprayed the masks with the spray bottle to make them less pristine-looking.
Just with this spray, the mask looked effective enough to be used in a horror film, however I wanted to experiment further. Using a cotton bud and the liquid fake blood, I drew mouth expressions onto the masks.
However, this was not as effective as I hoped it would be. Despite this, I think the masks with the blood sprayed onto them could still be useful in our trailer as they are very cheap to buy and I already have a lot of them.
