Practical: Wounds:

Wound practical:

I decided to do a practical task to make fake wounds. Since out trailers chosen genre is horror, wounds/gore/blood will be included within, therefore making it necessary to do wounds/practice.

Step one:
-First I gathered the materials I would need. Which included liquid latex, fake blood, toilet paper, colour corrector, and other makeup products, mainly different shades of red and black.
-I then took a brush and applied a thin layer of liquid latex to my forearm as a base.

 Step two:

-After the base had been applied before it was able to dry I placed a cut up piece of toilet paper (cut to my desired size) and placed it on my forearm. I then applied liquid latex to ensure it was stronger and blended well, e.g being flat being able to be blended into the skin later.
-I did this step three times in order to build up the paper to act as a layer of skin.

Step 4:

-I then used scissors to cut down the middle of the latex and paper in order to create a wound like shape, the paper made it look deeper and led it to be more realistic when finished.
- Then I used colour corrector, to blend it into my arm to attempt to make it look more realistic.

Step 4:

- I then used makeup to shade the insides of the wound in order to add depth.
- I also added reds and other shades of black to add to this.

Step 5:

I used fake blood and filled the middle of the wound up and let it drip out onto my arm. I used a fair amount of blood in order for it to look effective, but not too much like within the Saw series, where blood is used to a very over the top level. I used a dark background to represent the contrast between the dark and the vibrant red blood. Something which i will believe will be a good contrast/thing to consider during filming.

Conclusion:

In conclusion believe that the colour looked fairly effective. However I dot think the latex and paper blended well enough with my skin, making it look less realistic.

Next time I will ensure I spend more time blending and applying the materials to ensure it is to a higher level. I think the use of shading black on the inside added to the depth and looked effective swell as moving the excess latex and paper around the edges to look like cut skin.

However I feel that the blood could have also been applied in a more naturalistic manner and will continue to do research, so I have the ability to improve upon my skills for out final product.
