Wounds Research:

Wounds Research:

In order to gain inspiration for my practical of making a wound, I completed some research of well known horror movies looking at a variety of different types of wounds. As well as watching YouTube videos and looking at images to gain further inspiration and gain a further knowledge of what products to use.

Film inspiration:
Saw series:

I looked at scenes from different saw movies, saw is a slasher horror so a lot of the wounds/gore shown is very dramatic and over the top. Although this is the case the use of over the top blood also looks very effective on screen, which is something I will consider while filming, however to a less drastic level to ensure the feature of realism is still within the trailer. Saw is very graphic, therefore being useful for effective colours and textures to use when creating wounds, vibrant red tones look very effective, especially when presented against a dark background.

You're Next:

A slasher horror released in 2011. It uses a fair amount of blood/gore similarly to Saw however, it seems to take the aspect of realism into account. Not going too over the top but still using an effective amount. This naturalistic effect is something I would want to use within out trailer. Therefore making the film good inspiration.

The colour is also used effectively to stand out against the dark background, something commonly used within horrors since it looks good on camera and allows for the audience to quickly know what kind of events to suspect as well as knowing the genre from the get go.

You tube:

I also looked at you tube tutorials to gain inspiration and have a further understanding of how to make wounds and use my materials effectively.

Conclusion:

  • Overall this research has been very helpful and has presented me with different methods of creating wounds which will hopefully be a helpful skill to have learnt within the production stage of our teaser trailer.
