As a group we had to edit a trailer which was called The Woods and this trailer needed improving because the footage was too long and some of the footage included was not appropriate for the genre or it just lasted too long.
This is our re - edited version
This is how it was edited:
Firstly I started by cutting out all the irrelevant parts that I identified and were included didn't need to be there as it had no relevance. The above screenshot shows where there is long footage that has been included but it doesn't need to be that long so I decided to blade it and therefore this meant i could cut it and make it shorter. For example there was a long scene of a girl and boy shown walking across a field and this didn't really need to be shown for that long so I bladed it and cut it so that I could just use a particular part of the footage.
In the screenshot above it is showing that all the footage as been bladed so it is separate and things can be rearranged and cut out in order to make the footage flow better and not have scenes where irrelevant things are shown or there are things that won't be shown for too long.
This screenshot above is also another example of the way I cut/bladed things and deleted particular parts. After cutting everything as a group we decided to rearrange some parts to make it more effective. This could be done because we had bladed and cut everything so that they were separate bits of footage so we could rearrange it to make it flow better and have more effect upon the viewer. The way in which we did this was we moved around for example the man that had blood on his face and made him appear at more frequent times to show his appearance unexpectedly. Another thing that we also did was add in a black screen after scary images were shown and this helps to build suspense, this can be seen in the second screenshot below.
The screenshots of the sound below are showing that there is a point when the tension needs to be built when there is images of the man licking a knife with blood on and a man crawling along the floor when he has blood on him and images of a girl sat in a chair with tape over her mouth and the glitch sound is edited in for longer in order to help with that.
However in this screenshot below it is showing that the glitch sound only occurs for a few seconds above other sounds just for another short bit of the footage.
We thought that the sound that was already used was appropriate but it needed something else to go along with it and as a group we thought that a glitch sound effect every time a cut was made to a scary image the glitch sound would be made to help with the horror genre this film is trying to convey. This image below is also showing another point in which a glitch sound effect was added in and this was when the man is shown crawling along the concrete with blood dripping down his face. As you can see we decided to leave the original sound in but we decided to make it not as loud so that the other sound effects that we added would still have purpose and effect on the audience without getting lost within the original sound track that was included.
